Arthrex UHD Camera Console and Resection Shaver Console

As the industrial product design lead for Synergy, I was tasked with revolutionizing the look and feel of the Synergy UHD imaging console as well as extending my design expertise to the Synergy Resection Shaver console. My goal was to create a cohesive design language that seamlessly blends form and function for all Synergy products.

The Synergy UHD imaging console is an industry-leading platform that empowers surgeons with advanced imaging for arthroscopy, endoscopy, and laparoscopy. The units process 4K images with superior near-infrared fluorescence contrast. With the redesign, my main focus was on redesigning the front and back panels with a heavy emphasis on legibility, accessibility, and intuitive one-hand operation. These changes, along with a new definition of a future-forwarding look and feel and branding, helped create a timeless design language for the entire Synergy product family. I also leveraged the material characteristics and critical engineering features related to product performance to promote the intended design language.

With the Synergy Resection Shaver console, I aimed to match the UX design of the embedded screen-based interface, to create a consistent and intuitive user experience across all Synergy products. I put emphasis on creating a design that not only looks sleek and modern but also maximizes usability and accessibility, ensuring that the surgeon can focus on the task at hand, by providing easy access to the controls, and making the interface easy to read and navigate.

My design approach was to create a cohesive and consistent design language that would be recognizable across all Synergy products, the design should be timeless, but also future-forwarding, exude innovation and should be able to communicate the advanced technology of the product. To achieve this I leveraged the material characteristics and critical engineering features related to product performance to promote the intended design language for both Synergy UHD imaging console and Synergy Resection Shaver console.

I am proud to have played a key role in creating a cohesive and consistent design language for the entire Synergy product family, resulting in products that not only look great but also improve the user experience and ultimately help the surgeon to perform better.

Arthrex Fluid Management Console

As the internal industrial product design lead, I played a crucial role in helping the Arthrex engineering team redefine the working concept of the dual-wave fluid management system used in arthroscopy procedures. To achieve this, my team and I conducted a thorough analysis of competitors’ products and prioritized user needs against engineering and industry standard requirements to find balanced solutions that would ensure the success of the product.

Using a structured design process, I collaborated with the product engineering team and vendors to generate unique product concepts that improved ergonomics, usability, and human-product interaction efficiency while incorporating the latest technological advancements. To effectively communicate these design concepts with my distributed team, I utilized various visualization tools, techniques, and media throughout the process.

Throughout the concept generation and development phase, I worked closely with the engineering team to refine and screen concepts. Additionally, I helped design a research experiment for usability testing of selected prototypes and analyzed the data collected from user testing to improve the product even further.
